Manitou Springs Library FAQ's

How do I get a library card?
In order to receive a Manitou Springs Public Library card, you will need to present identification which contains your Manitou Springs address. Acceptable identification includes a driver's license, checkbook, utility bill, identification card, or a rental agreement/lease.

I already have a card from Pikes Peak Library District. Can I check books out at the Manitou Springs library with this card?
Because we are not part of the Pikes Peak Library District, we will need to issue you a separate card in order for you to check out our books. We are participants in the Colorado Library Card Program (link to: http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdelib/sl_libcardindex.htm ) which allows borrowing privileges among various participating libraries within the state. Simply present your PPLD (or other participating library) card, along with identification showing your current address, and we will issue you a Manitou Springs card.

I'm only going to be in town for a short period of time. Can I get a temporary card?
A visitor's card may be issued to anyone who is not a resident of Colorado. An ID showing current address is required, along with a deposit of $20.00. Borrowing privileges are the same as for regular patrons. When the materials are returned, we will refund $19.00 to you

How long can I keep materials from the Manitou Springs Public Library?
You may keep books, magazines, and audiotapes for three weeks. You may keep videos for five days

How much do you charge for overdue fines?
Our fines are 10 cents/day for books, magazines, CDs, and books on tape or CD; 50 cents/day for videos and DVDs.

What if I want to keep a book or video for longer than the checkout period?
You may renew materials up to two times, as long as they are not overdue or on hold/reserve for another patron. We offer in-person or phone renewals at 685-5206. If the library is not open, please leave a message stating your name and the titles of what you would like to renew. Renewals will allow you an additional 3 weeks for books and 5 days for videos.

What if I want a book that you don't have?
We will be happy to place an Interlibrary Loan request for you. If the item is available in-state, it will usually arrive within one week, unless there are other requests pending for it. Renewals are not allowed on interlibrary loan materials, and the fine structure is the same as for materials owned by the Manitou Springs Public Library.

Does the library have computers available for the public?
Yes, computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Computers have Internet access, office and word processing software, and educational games and software.
