Manitou Springs Library Internet Acceptable Use Policy
PURPOSE:
The
Manitou Springs Public Library is pleased to provide access
to the Internet as one means of fulfilling its mission
to "enhance the community by providing for the informational,
educational, and recreational reading needs of its citizens." As
stated in our Technology Plan, integrating technology into
our library services expands and enhances access to information
and resources, and improves staff efficiency.
All
Internet resources accessible through the Library are provided
equally to all users, with the understanding that it is the
individual user's responsibility to demonstrate judgment,
respect for others, and appropriate conduct while using the
Manitou Springs Public Library's resources and facilities.
DISCLAIMER:
Through
the Internet patrons are able to access a vast array of information
for all age groups and interests. These access points, which
often change rapidly and unpredictably, are not controlled
by Library staff. Patrons are, thus, responsible for the sites
they access. The Internet contains some printed and visual
materials which some patrons may find objectionable. It is
not, however, the library's policy to decide what ideas are
appropriate for any given library patron. Each individual
should determine the appropriateness of the material for his/her
own needs. Parents or legal guardians should provide guidance
to their own children. Parents or legal guardians are solely
responsible for their child's, and only their child's, use
of the Internet.
Additionally,
the Library cannot guarantee the accuracy of any information
on the Internet, as each site is developed by its respective
developer or owner. The Internet is an unregulated medium
by nature, and timeliness, completeness, and accuracy of information
found on the Internet varies widely.
The
Manitou Springs Public Library will not assume any responsibility
for damages, direct or indirect, arising from use of electronic
services through our system, including the Internet.
PUBLIC
ACCESSIBILITY:
Any
person, regardless of age or residency, may have free access
to the Electronic Resources of the Manitou Springs Public
Library.
Basic training and assistance on the Internet may be available,
as time permits.
Printing will be available and there will be a charge for
each page printed.
PROHIBITED
USE:
Any
of the following actions may result in loss of library privileges
and/or criminal prosecution or other legal action. Prohibited
use of the Manitou Springs Public Library's Electronic Resources
includes the following:
- Users
may not violate copyright laws and licenses for the use
of programs and data.
Users may not use the Manitou Springs Public Library's computers
for criminal activities.

public computer with a floppy drive and may not run programs
