The
Manitou Springs Police Department responds to approximately
3,000 calls for service a year. These responses range from minor
citizen assists and complaints to assaults, homicides, and illegal
clandestine drug manufacturing labs. The Manitou Springs Police
Department is a community oriented policing agency, and our
officers strive to work with the citizens to better the community.
Our department is actively involved in a proactive form of law
enforcement, believing that preventing crime is one of the best
services we can provide to our citizens. We are also relentless
in our efforts to solve the crimes that do occur, apprehend
suspects, and seek justice for all involved.
The Manitou
Springs Police Department protects and serves the City of
Manitou Springs with a population of approximately six thousand
residents, and encompassing approximately six square miles.
Throughout the late spring, summer, and early fall, the population
just about triples in size due to the influx of tourists who
enjoy the awesome views, fresh air, relaxed atmosphere, and
many area attractions
On February 17, 2009, President Obama signed, into law, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 as an effort to revitalize our economy. Of the $787 billion allocated to the Recovery Act, $2 billion was earmarked for local law enforcement agencies.
One of the elements of the $2 billion allocation is the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Formula Program, Non-Competitive Local Solicitation. The available grant funding has already been allocated to eligible jurisdictions by a predetermined formula based on population and violent crime statistics.
Under this local JAG solicitation, the eligible individual allocation for the City of Manitou Springs was a total of $10,050.96. Therefore as a requirement of the grant, we would like to share with you what the Manitou Springst Police Department has requested in the grant submission.
